 Overview

General Practice Tasmania, through its member divisions, is delivering a secure electronic clinical messaging environment across the whole of Tasmania. TAS eHealth Messaging (TeHM) delivers secure two-way messaging between Tasmanian GPs and specialists. This project was previously referred to as SECCI (Secure Electronic Clinical Communications Initiative).

The messaging software that has been chosen to support this initiative, Global Health's ReferralNet, integrates with a number of clinical systems to build referral messages. This message is digitally signed and then securely transmitted to the desired specialist. The specialist is then able to send progress notes back to the referring doctor for integration with the practice's patient records.

The ReferralNet software is under rapid development to improve its integration with the diverse range of clinical systems in use across the State.

Benefits

There are numerous benefits to both GPs and specialists by participating in TeHM:

Benefits for GPs and Practice Staff:

  • The provision of a legal and effective electronic referral method,
  • Outgoing messages can be sent directly from any software that can create the international-standard HL7 files (this includes Best Practice, Genie).  Medical Director work-around coming soon.
  • Incoming messages can be imported directly into your clinical software (this includes every practice’s clinical software used in NW Tasmania) – no more scanning and attaching to patient files!
  • Use your existing letters templates – as letters/referrals are created in your clinical software.

Benefits for Specialists:

  • Fully electronic and legible incoming messages,
  • Incoming messages can be automatically extracted to a folder on your computer or on your network,
  • Send messages directly from Microsoft Word,
  • You can use your existing Word templates (some simple modification required).

Benefits for all:

  • Fully secure with Individual or Location PKI encryption of messages,
