Overview

Via funding provided by the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) and the Rural and Remote Mental Health Area Project (RRMH), GPNW employs the services of Mental Health Clinicians to provide free patient services in all areas of the North West.

The service has been funded to increase access to allied mental health services in rural and remote areas and specifically to work with people aged 15-64 years, farming and aboriginal families.

The GPNW Mental Health Clinical Team Objectives are to:

  • Establish and maintain mental health clinics at a range of identified locations in north west region, including within the general practice setting.
  • Strengthen the capacity of general practice through the establishment of sound professional relationships and provision of clinical services to patients, in close liaison with GPs.
  • Maintain sound communication processes with general practice, providing detailed reporting back to the referring General Practitioner.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate networks to facilitate referral and access for patients to other services and advocate for individual patient needs where necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records in an agreed format, of all patients seen.
  • Maintain required activity records for monitoring and evaluation of the service.
  • Contribute to ongoing planning, evaluation and policy formation in relation to the service.
  • Undertake and participate in appropriate professional supervision and mentoring interaction in accordance with accepted professional practice.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities, in line with accreditation standards
  • Undertake and participate in relevant professional development.
